Deborah Briones, Prologis SVP, associate general counsel, Legal, is on the San Francisco Business Times’ 2018 Most Influential Women in Bay Area Business list. Deborah and other Bay Area influencers will be honored in an award ceremony in June.
We caught up with Deborah and asked her to reflect on this honor and her 14 years at Prologis.
Q: How did you start at Prologis?
A: I worked with AMB as outside counsel for several years before I came over as in-house counsel. During this time, I was able to get to know the company and, importantly, the culture by getting into the trenches with the team on their deals. The quality of people was a big draw for me—and it still is.
Q: How has Prologis supported your career?
A: The culture at Prologis encourages its people to roll up their sleeves and dig in—no matter what your background is, you can learn, develop, grow and contribute. This company has given me the opportunity to leverage skills beyond my legal background to add value.
Q: For two years in a row, our proxy statement has been nominated as best proxy among public companies. You were a lead on this project. What made it such a success?
A: These honors are great, but I’m proudest of the fantastic teamwork that is involved every year. Dedicated people across numerous departments work together to create this highly visible 100-plus page investor communications tool. This project is a success story of Prologis teamwork and culture more than anything else.
The proxy is also a great example of what we can do to enhance our customers’ experience, as it reflects investor feedback. Communicating to our investors that we are listening to them and that they are heard is a priority for us at Prologis. The proxy’s evolution is all about Prologis’ drive for continuous improvement.
Q: What’s something fun we should know about Deborah?
A: I played touch football for fun in law school. (I got the wind knocked out of me more than once—had to learn to run fast!)
