To help our customers reduce their operational carbon dioxide emissions and help their employees save up to £1,000 a year in transportation costs, Prologis set up Green Travel plans at its parks across the UK.
Green Travel plans are run through websites dedicated to individual parks. Employees of participating companies are encouraged to join. Once they become members, employees ride share with other members. Those who prefer to get some exercise while commuting can find a companion with whom to cycle or walk to work. Members can find potential matches—either within their own company or the wider network—by using an interactive mapping tool. They are then given contact details for potential carpoolers, along with safety and car-sharing tips.
As well as offering benefits to employees, the Green Travel websites are a useful management tool for our customers. Because members are encouraged to complete a travel survey, their employers can track modal shifts and receive additional information for carbon-emissions reduction and financial savings.
Green Travel sites are already in place at seven parks, including Prologis Park Pineham, Prologis Park Marston Gate, Prologis Park Dunstable and Prologis Park Heathrow. Websites for an additional 10 parks are in the process of being built. Over 1,250 people have joined the Prologis Green Travel program, which is administered by LiftShare, the UK’s largest car-sharing community.
Green Travel benefits the wider community by reducing the number of cars on the roads. As a result, there is less congestion, less pollution and fewer parking problems. Since LiftShare launched in 2008, it has reduced C02 emissions by 453 metric tons, the equivalent of 1.1 million miles in an average passenger vehicle.
